Imhotep
Imhotep, Chancellor to Pharaoh Djoser in the 27th century BC, was perhaps the greatest polymath who ever lived. Architect, physician, astronomer, priest, poet, and sage – no title was beyond his grasp. He designed the Step Pyramid at Saqqara, the first monumental stone structure in history, revolutionizing architecture forever.
Imhotep served as High Priest of the sun god Ra at Heliopolis and was Djoser’s most trusted advisor. His medical knowledge was so advanced that he is credited as the father of medicine, treating ailments with reason rather than magic centuries before Hippocrates.
After his death, Imhotep’s legend only grew. The Egyptians worshipped him as a god of medicine and wisdom, brother to Thoth himself. Even the Greeks revered him, identifying him with their healing god Asclepius. Few mortals in history have achieved divine status – Imhotep earned it twice over.
